Temple Grandin
Honorary D.Sc.

An assistant professor of livestock handling and behaviour at Colorado State University, Temple Grandin has had a major impact on the farming industry by proving the benefits of good handling and transportation methods for livestock. She developed widely used ranching and feeding systems that are more comfortable for animals and better at preventing injuries. She also designed more humane restraining systems to hold cattle and calves during slaughter. She has won several awards, including the Harry C. Rowsell Award from the Scientists' Centre for Animal Welfare and the Industry Innovator's Award from Meat Marketing and Technology Magazine. A recovered autistic, she sits on the board of directors of the Autism Society of America and lectures throughout the U.S. about her own experiences to parents and teachers of autistic children.
