Marjorie Bronfman
Honorary LL.D.

A committed volunteer and philanthropist, Marjorie Bronfman has been an active presence on numerous boards of directors for such organizations as the Université de Montréal, the McCord Museum, the Arthritis Society, the Mount Sinai Hospital Corporation and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. She is a driving force behind the Marjorie and Gerald Bronfman Foundation, which has supported a wide range of institutions. McGill units have benefited from the foundation's assistance, including the Gerald Bronfman Centre for Clinical Research in Oncology, the Jewish General Hospital (through the Marjorie and Gerald Bronfman Endowment Fund for Palliative Care) and the McCord Museum.




Dr. Lelio Orci
Honorary D.Sc.

The chair of the University of Geneva Medical School's Department of Morphology, Dr. Lelio Orci is an internationally recognized authority in such areas as the cell biology of insulin secretion and molecular intermediates in intracellular transport. Using innovative techniques, many of them developed in his own laboratory, Orci has provided the most complete picture yet available of the structure of the cells responsible for the production of insulin. He has won several major prizes including the European Society for Clinical Investigation's Mack-Foster Award, the American Juvenile Diabetes Foundation's David Rumbough Award for outstanding research in diabetes and British Endocrine Societies' Dale Medal and the American Diabetes Association's Banting Medal. Orci is the author or co-author of more than 450 scientific papers.




Dr. Carroll Laurin
Professor Emeritus

Surgery professor Carroll Laurin's Atlas of Orthopedic Surgery remains the only major textbook on orthopedics that has been published in both English and French. The atlas has been widely used across the globe. An authority on sports medicine, Laurin served as the director of medical services for the Montreal Olympic Games in 1976. He joined McGill from the Université de Montréal in 1982 to become the Royal Victoria Hospital's senior orthopedic surgeon. He served as the head of McGill's Department of Orthopedics from 1982 to 1994 and was named to the Marthe and Maurice E. MŸller Chair in Orthopedic Surgery in 1990.




Dr. Peter Macklem
Professor Emeritus

The author of more than 300 articles in the field of pulmonary medicine, Macklem joined McGill in 1972 and was named director of the Meakins Christie Laboratories. He helped build the lab into a world-class site for research in pulmonary medicine. In 1980, Macklem became chair of the Department of Medicine at McGill, a position he held until 1985. The scientific director of Inspiraplex (the Respiratory Health Network of Centres of Excellence), Macklem served as president of the Canadian Society for Clinical Investigation in 1984. He has been an articulate and vocal advocate of the need for businesses to invest in Canadian university research and has been a promoter of the importance of the role of clinician/scientists.




Dr. Joseph Milic-Emili
Professor Emeritus

A member of McGill's faculty since 1963, Milic-Emili's name is familiar to pulmonary physiologists around the world. The chair of the Department of Physiology from 1973 to 1978 and the director of the Meakins Christie Laboratories from 1979 to 1995, Milic-Emili is the author of more than 350 research publications. One of his papers, published in the 1960s, was one of the most cited in clinical research worldwide. His studies have focused on the physiology of respiration and respiratory mechanics. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a member of the Order of Canada.
