The Office of Technology Transfer promotes and facilitates the transfer of technology between McGill researchers and outside sponsors including industry and government. This includes research contracts from industry and government, patenting and licensing of inventions to industry.
During the past academic year (1994/1995) OTT was responsible for managing 101 research contracts and 70 reports of invention from across the McGill research community. Through these efforts, OTT was able to generate gross revenues of $2,725,844 for the University.
The Technology Transfer Officer responsible for this sector is Jonathan Farber. Jonathan can be reached at his principal office located at 3550 University Street, which is on the McGill main campus.
Jonathan will also spend two days a week at the Macdonald Campus to provide better services to researchers in the above technological areas. To make appointments, Jonathan can be reached at his main campus office at local 4200, by fax at 8479, or by e-mail at Jfarber@OTT.Lan.McGill.Ca.
In the new year Jonathan, together with the department chairs, will be organizing short presentations at departmental meetings, on topics covering licensing, patenting, technology protection and research contract agreements.
He will also continue to meet with staff and discuss their research interests and any technology transfer issues of importance to them.
Jonathan's other sector of responsibility is Chemistry. A presentation on technology transfer and the services provided by OTT was made at a recent department meeting.
For the period June 1, 1995 to November 28,1995, contracts generated or renewed through OTT for this sector were worth $1,250,000.
