Dr. K.F. Ng-Kwai-Hang, from the Department of Animal Science, was the recipient of the Canadian Association of Animal Breeders Award for Excellence in Genetics and Physiology.

Professor Norbert Schoenauer, from the School of Architecture, has earned the Médaille de mérite for professional excellence from the Ordre des architectes du Québec.

Ms. Joan Gross, manager of the Conference Office, was recently presented with an Award of Excellence from the Canadian University and College Conference Officers Association. Gross was cited for her "development of the industry and commitment to the advancement of CUCCOA."

Ms. Diana Grier Ayton, Mr. Daniel McCabe and Mr. Eric Smith, editor, associate editor and designer of the McGill Reporter, earned a silver medal in the category of "best university newspaper" in a recent competition organized by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (District 1). The competition was open to university newspapers from Quebec, the Maritimes and the northeastern United States.

Ms. Kate Williams, director of the University Relations Office, and Mr. Garry Graham, a graphic design manager at the Instructional Communications Centre, also earned a silver medal in the CASE (District 1) competition for a bookmark they collaborated on which advertises McGill's web site.

Professor Desmond Morton, from the Department of History, was awarded a Canadian Letters Award from the Periodical Marketers of Canada for his contribution to Canadian letters.

Dr. Claudio Cuello, from the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, has won the senior PSC Research Award in Pharmacology from the Pharmacological Society of Canada.

Professor Arun Mujumdar, from the Department of Chemical Engineering, earned a Senior Fellowship from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and was made an Honorary Professor at China's Zhejiang University of Technology.

Dr. Hans Möller, Research and Development Librarian, has been named Friend of the Year 1996 by the Friends of the Library Committee for exceptional service since the group was established in 1986 and for his "untiring efforts to provide the highest quality programs for the Friends." He is also recognized for providing leadership and direction in the publication of Fontanus. The Friends plan to establish a library shelf named in his honour.

Ms. Vicky Tessier, an undergraduate in the Department of Chemistry, has been named Most Valuable Player by the Quebec University Basketball League. It's the fifth MVP prize in a row for Tessier who led all female university basketball players in the country in scoring this season. Tessier was also named to the QUBL all-star team along with teammates Ms. Jen Stacey and Ms. Anne Gildenhuys.
