Faculty of Dentistry
Martin Tyler retired in 2002 after 21 years of teaching. The class of 2003 unanimously nominated Tyler for that Dentistry's W.W. Wood Award.
In their letter of recommendation, the class wrote "He is a truly gifted lecturer able to spark interest in all subjects he teaches. His talks are well prepared, and he is notorious for his good use of clinical slides and mnemonics to drive home the message. His enthusiasm, his ability to bring humour to occasionally drab subjects, and his knack for involving students without making anyone feel uneasy has won over the respect and attention of all students."
Tyler's (who is also a retired captain in the U.S. Navy reserve) teaching didn't stop with the student body. He was one of the organizers of weekly seminars at McGill to provide continuing education for his professional peers in Montreal, to which his university students were welcome to attend free of charge.
