Dr. Eric Fombonne has been elected president of two key pediatric psychiatry associations. One is the Assemblée de chefs de pedopsychiatrie de l'ile de Montreal, which addresses issues of access to services, availability of resources and development of child psychiatry services in Montreal and across Quebec. And in October he will head the Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of Canada.

Emeritus professor of philosophy, Charles Taylor, will be inducted into the Académie des Grands Montréalais. The society, founded by the Board of Trade in 1988, recognizes individuals who have contributed to the growth of the city and enhanced its reputation abroad in business, culture, social issues and science.

Kim St-Pierre has become the first woman in McGill history —and is believed to be the second in Canadian University history — to play for a men's varsity team when St. Mary's defeated the Redmen 4-2 in a non-conference hockey game in Halifax on Friday night. St-Pierre is one of four goaltenders trying out for the Redmen. She led the Canadian national women's team to a gold medal at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics

The Governor General's Meritorious Service Medal has been awarded to Marcia (Kappy) Flanders, member of the Board of Governors. The award recognizes individuals who have performed an exceptional deed or an activity that brought honour to their community or to Canada. Inspired by the plight of family members who have succumbed to cancer, Kappy Flanders has devoted herself to the evolution of palliative care in Canada through her philanthropic and voluntary activities.
